I know I've said wonderful things about where I live, but now I need to rant for a minute....I went out for my morning walk, and wouldn't you know it someone smashed my car window. NO DOUBT to find something worth something that could be sold...
Nothing was stolen...Frankly, I really don't have anything to steal! I struggle through, still trying to pay off college and grad school, and here comes some jerk making me PAY out even more of my meager earnings to fix something I didn't break!
I live in a good neighborhood....grrrrrrr.
No smoking though!!! _________________

I'm so sorry, Gidget. It seems, with all the wonderful, caring people in the world, there are still a few malcontents who delight in making other prople miserable. As least he/she didn't find any cigarettes in your car. _________________

Boy, that stinks. What a hassle. However, I'd suggest that you file a police report. lots of times they will keep an eye out if theres a rash of vandalism in a certain neighborhood. ...and see what your insurance will cover. I know, you still have to pay out of pocket for the deductable...but it still might we worth it.
It's fine to rant here...all you want...as long as you know that smoking won't help...which I know you do! _________________

Thanks Jo and Pam!
I laughed out loud over the no cigarettes in my car!!!
This is a funny city. The ghettos and the good neighborhoods are like a checkerboard throughout the city. When the weather turns nice and the ghettos have all been pillaged, the ugliness gets in all the rest of the city. Sadly, this street DOES get patrolled a lot, the University is close and there are a lot of students around that require protecting.
Waiting to hear back from the glass company....
Thanks again for the kind thoughts on my very bad Monday!!

Hope the window isn't going to cost too much.....within the past two years my daughter and I both had hit and runs.....I know I felt so violated.....I ended up spending $500.00 on something that was totally not my fault.....daughter's insurance company didn't make her pay her deductable since it was a hit and run....I have since changed my insurance coverage....
Hang in there,
Patty |

After my son's car window was smashed out and stereo stolen we decided it was cheaper to leave the door unlocked and just replace the stereo. So, after we did that there was never a problem again.
The important thing is that didn't get you.
Hope you're having a better week this week.

Thanks everyone!
I did beat the urge to smoke and, instead, took care of the problem and focused on my goal of raising $500 for breast cancer research in pledges for my 5K run!! Can't run too well if I'm smoking.
Apparently, people go around looking for signs that a GPS system is in the car. I have one, but I don't leave it in the car, I did leave the mount in there. I now know, they see the mount and expect the device is nearby...
Kaye, you are right, it is cheaper to keep the door unlocked, but my concern is that my car will be stolen. I have a Honda, people LOVE Hondas on the stolen car market around here.
Thanks again for all of your thoughts, kind words and encouragement!!

I'm glad you're doing the Breast Cancer 5K, Gidget.
I'm putting in my plug here too. Go to the BreastCancerSite and CLICK every day. Each time you click a free mammogram is given.
Also notice that you can click for Hunger, Pets, Children's Health, Literacy, the Rain Forest.
I CLICK every morning before I allow myself to read any e-mails or visit any websites.

good answer, kaye - frances clicks first thing every morning, too - and we always order christmas and birthday gifts from there (usually from the animal rescue, literacy, and rain forest sites), too. here's the url for the breast cancer site:
http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=2
the rest (hunger, child health, literacy, rain forest, and animal rescue) are linked from the tabs along the top of the homepage.

Here in Hartford I walk past piles of glass regularly. I think a lot of this smash and grab stuff is people with addictions to feed who are despirate for a couple of bucks to buy their drugs with. It is sad. I keep my car in a garage to protect from this and the other big CT problem, license plate theft.
I take this stuff as a cost of living in town. It is too bad, but it is the way it is. Unfortunately there are a lot of really despirate and/or dishonest people out there.

Thanks for the site! It's excellent!
As for the price of living in the "city" grrrrr! I'm still a little angry.
But I clicked to give away a free mamogram!! _________________
