You guys are terrific. Thank you so much. Marg, you have a great point. My dad is proud of my quit. He mentioned it to the doctor today, as a matter of fact.

We transferred my dad to inpatient Hospice last week upon my arrival. The Comfort House staff allows a great deal of latitude for the patients and families. Once the temperatures reached above 0, he was allowed to smoke outside. He cannot even comfortably make a transfer into a wheelchair, but he wants to smoke and he wants wine. I of course threw out all of his cigarette packs in the stash places I am aware of. I did not know how I would handle temptation under such acute stress. My mother is holding his stash and he no longer asks me because I don't even know where they are. As it turns out, I am not even tempted. I see my dad and the last thing I would like is a cigarette. It is almost as if I had never smoked. It is terribly sad to see a person's priorities so completely out of whack.

The steroids he is taking to manage the pain the tumors in his brain would cause give him a false sense of well being. It is an emotional tsunami for me as this man who has stolen my dad from me tries to control his own body all the while taking out his frustrations on those who are trying to help him.

I guess that is all for now.

I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR DAD GIDGET. I HOPE YOU WILL SPEND AS MUCH TIME WITH HIM AS YOU CAN AND REMEMBER ALL THE GOOD TIMES. MY DAD LOST HIS MIND BEFORE HE DIED AND IT WAS HARD NOT KNOWING FOR SURE IF HE EVEN KNEW I WAS THERE...THEN ONE DAY HE TOOK MY HAND AND KISSED THE BACK OF IT AND WINKED...I KNEW THEN THAT FOR THAT MOMENT HE KNEW IT WAS ME AND I CHERISH THAT MOMENT TO THIS DAY....FIND THE MOMENTS GIDGET AND HOLD ON....MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU.

Thanks, everyone! The hugs are much appreciated! Things are a little bleak, but we certainly appreciate the good days. I have been fortunate to have some nice quick talks with my dad and it feels good to hear him tell me he loves me and is proud of me .
He has said repeatedly to me and others how proud he is that I have passed 10 months without smoking. The doctor has reinforced to me that now is the time as there will be fewer and fewer moments of clarity in the coming days. Deep breaths and calm thoughts, it'll be OK.
I'll keep posting as I can.

((Gidget)) Losing a family member is hard but even harder when it is a parent. I lost my DADS both of them 7 years ago now and Both of them died to smoking related illnesses. Both died in their sleep So thankfully at least their death in the end was peaceful. I hope that for your father and to give you some peace of mind. Talk to your father while you can and even afterwards it helps.

You are in my thoughts.

Gidget,

I tried to go to the Carepage about your dad but it asked me to sign in.

We will be here for you like kevin said. With a shoulder to lean onto and arms to fall into even if they are cyber ones.

Hugs to you,
