Today was a celebration of my choice to live. As much as I celebrated my choice, I was haunted by the vision of my Dad in Hospice only 2 months ago suffering with brain cancer and begging to go out to smoke every couple of hours in below 0 weather. He would forget he smoked as soon as he came in. It was heartbreaking.

I resented that nicotine could continue to have such a grip on my dad. I hated that it would take almost an hour to get his skinny, frail, unresponsive body dressed and bundled for the sub zero weather only to wheel him back in to sit in front of the fireplace to heat up a little bit. I hated that it took every bit of energy and brain power he had left for him to think about smoking. This was not the beautiful, wonderful man that was always so full of life. My dad's addiction to nicotine killed him.

He is certainly now in a better place with no pain, no treatments and no medicine, but I am heartbroken. He was an amazing man with an awful addiction. He was so very proud of me that I was able to overcome and that I have continued to choose to live. I know he is celebrating with me today.

i'm sorry to hear about your dad's passing, gidget, but you're right: he's better off now, and he had the chance to tell you how proud he was of you before he left. that's something you can cherish forever.

happy anniversary! Smile

((((Gidget))))) and a Congratz

It hurts so bad losing that wonderful parent and then to see the pain he went through but it has made you a stronger woman. And you are correct, he is celebrating with you.

May your days be less painful than the day before...May your brain remember all the good memories...May your heart be filled with the love and joy he gave you.

Take care, huney....Congratz on your year of new life.

Gidget,

I am sorry for your dad's passing and I know how it feels. Especially to smoking and how horrible that demon has that hold on our loved ones even in their las hours. Congragulations on your 1 year quit and stand strong it gets a bit easier in both departments.
