Hi all -

A message for everyone about the importance of getting dental checkups for ex-smokers.

My Mr. Bill recently went for a regular dental checkup and cleaning. The dentist found a white lesion on his tongue and sent him to an oral surgeon. Mr. Bill could not see or feel the lesion.

The lesion was cut out and biopsied. There are a lot of medical terms I can't say, spell or remember, bottom line - it was cancer that they got to just in time before it spread.

Just because we've quit smoking we're not out of the woods.

Make sure you all get regular checkups!

Oh, and eat chocolate cake...I hear it prevents all kinds of horrible diseases. Wink

Thanks, Pamela. We go at least twice a year. So far, no problems other than our gums and that's from smoking. So glad Mr. Bill's problem was detected early.

Oh, and as for the chocolate, I manage to enjoy some daily but thanks for the reminder! Laughing

Pam,

Yes reg. dental checkups are important but unfortunately some of us don't have tha tluxuary. I am going to have to call another dentist soon cuz I hve teeth that are really bothering me. And the dentist I was going to go to din't come though with gettting me in

And in lue of the people that can't afford or don't have medical care hmo, insurance they really need the help to get good and affordable in some cases free medical/dental help. Those people I feel for.

Hi everybody. Hey Leona, why not check with the schools and community colleges in your area. The community college in my home town has a hygenist program, and they do free dental cleanings and checkups so that the hygenists can get practical experience. Since a lot of my old sorority sisters were in this program, they used to come to the cafeteria trolling for "patients" and I got my teeth cleaned about once a month.

Until the head of the unit, (dentist) caught me out. (you weren't supposed to get worked on that often) He had been my dentist when I was a little kid....and he recognized me from my teeth!

But I would check on that...because it's expensive to have done, but more expensive down the road if you develop problems!

However, cake cures everything. Hey Tammy!

Hi Pamela - I'm glad Mr. Bill is ok...Certainly reinforces how important it is to do the things we need to do to take care of ourselves. Take care!

Hi Pam, I'm so happy Mr. Bill is OK. It's amazing how important these checkups are! I am struck that he didn't see or feel it!
As for the cure-all, I'm ready for some cake!
Good to see you here!
