i just got a couple of phishing emails from somebody in russia who's spoofing the email addresses associated with this site, and it occurred to me that some of you might get one or more of these, too.

how can you tell whether an email that looks like it's from woofmang really is from woofmang?

first of all, check the subject line: the following are the only subject lines used in "official" emails from this site; if the subject line of the email in question is not one of these, it's a fake:

Account Activated
New Private Message has arrived
New password activation
Reactivate your account
Topic Reply Notification - (followed by title of a topic you're following)

secondly, if there any pictures in the email, it's a fake (all our "official" emails are sent in plain text).

finally, if there's a link in it that says anything like "click here to view as a web page", it's a fake.

if you have any doubts, don't click on any links in it; pm me, or post a question on the forum somewhere, and i'll check into it for you.
