I dont get it, it seems every time I quit smoking things around me start falling to pieces. Like I am being attacked or something. I am not trying to sound paranoid but it seems like everything starts going wrong after I quit. I WILL NOT SMOKE THIS TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not and I will not fall for this excuse again. Maybe things were this bad while I was smoking but the nicotine numbed me to it. I brought some eucalyptus oil to use like aromatherapy and it works to calm me down alot. I have been kind of angry today so I have trying different things to do in these situations and not smoke. But hey another smoke free day I am SOOO thankful for that!

AWESOME!!! Way to go on another day! I think you are right that the things would have happened whether you'd quit or not - but how you manage your reaction to them will be different - since all of your experience in crisis management is based on how you do it under the influence of nicotine. You'll need to try new ways of reacting and managing stress and coping with those crisis moments. But think of it this way - there are hundred of non-smokers out there coping with the same things you are facing - and they are focused on the problem - and are certainly not thinking about smoking to "cope" with the crisis - and you know what - they will get through the crisis without smoking - and YOU CAN TOO!!!! Its all about changes...and how you react is UP TO YOU!!! Just decide right now - that NOTHING can happen that will be made BETTER by lighting up. Smoking solves absolutely nothing! You are doing it!! Stay free!

John,

It does seem like things get worse for some of us when we quit. It is actually us learning to deal without the crutch of cigarette and us maybe seeing things differently. I started to see how abusive my ex husband was so natually things got worse for me because I started to revolt and eventually left him. Even though it got worse for awhile it was the best thing I did.

You're doing good to post your feelings.

John, the same thing happened to me. But looking back now, I think it wasn't "things" happening to me, but "me" happening to me. I was really, really angry and sensitive to everything. I felt like my skin was turning inside out. It's just so difficult to describe and explain, I know, but the best way to get through is that old mantra: one day, one minute at a time. We have to go through our lives, either smoking or not smoking. When we choose not to smoke, then we have to go through some wierd stuff to get through to the other side. Each moment, we make the choice -- are we in charge here or are we going to let our addiction be in charge?

I know you can do this, John. Just keep hanging on -- look how far you've come already!!!

Thanks folks I think the smoke is just clearing and I am feeling normal feelings without my old ways of dealing with them. One thing I have struggled with today is people being jerks, I was surprised that once I sat back and actually gave myself time to breathe and think about it, I didnt want to do the things to them that at the moment I did. I mean all those mounds in the woods out back, someone is bound to get suspicious!! Laughing Seriously I am so Happy I didnt smoke Today, its great to be here! Very Happy

John, Essie has a good point.

I am glad that you can make a joke out of it cause a good sense of humor will help you go a long way. You are doing so good with your quit. Keep up the hard work.

Laughing i think we all pretty much felt the same way about at least one person in the early days, john - one of the keys to staying free is keeping your sense of humor (and perspective). keep up the good work! Smile
