Hi, I'm 61 and have quit smoking. Am using nicotine patches because trying total cold turkey gave me horrific headaches, confusion, anxiety and moodiness. Now I'm concerned that patches may be just a stop-gap. Shocked any feedback would be appreciated. I just feel so alone in this.

It has always been a debatable issue but I will tell you I too am 61 and I quit using the patch and Zyban...in the end, you still must go without the patch but for me, it saved the people around me... Laughing Laughing I had a really hard time quitting but that was in 2004....My vote is do whatever it takes to quit smoking...right or wrong...you want to be a quitter this time out.

Hi Shirley, and welcome to woofmang. Kay is right. We all have to manage our quit in the manner that works best for us. Cold turkey worked for me but I know that isn't for everyone. It doesn't matter how you quit just find the way that's best for you and do it. Quitting isn't easy but it's well worth the effort.

Hello! I know you can do this.

I'm not a regular poster, but I've been on woofmang since I quit in 2004. I was living in the rural country and the internet was my only support. The support made all the difference in the world!

Congrats on taking your quit!!! Cool

Hi Shirley - congrats on quitting...just take it one day at time - and if the patch keeps you from smoking - use it...and step down to manage the nicotine withdrawal. Nicotine is a powerfully addictive drug - and cigarettes become an integral part of everything we do and there are lots of habits to break when you quit - but you CAN do it...support can really make a difference - keep that quit going...it will get easier!

Hi Shirley,

Congrats on the quit!!! Good luck with the patch I did use that before and it helped but gave me crazy dreams. Chantix works well as well.
