Hi Everyone. I'm hoping I'm posting this to the correct place. I've quit smoking and this is day 12. (Yea!) Through my insurance at my wife's workplace I am on a program with a health coach whom I speak to on the phone once per week and they provided nicotine replacement 'therapy'. I'm using the NicoDermQC, step 1. I was a pack-a-day smoker for 3 years having quit for about 8 years when I was a half-pack a day smoker.
Has anyone else used this method and where you having the very strange 'vivid dreams' that they note some reported in the test studies and I was told I might have? They are interesting, but a bit freaky.
I've been lucky and have had very few cravings and they are mostly when I would have smoked before such as after eating. But a few when I never would have. They pass quickly.
Thank you and thank you for this board! |

Hi, I quit using the patches and zyban almost 8 years ago. I was soooo scared that I was cutting the 7 mg into fourths before I just let it go. I found ice water helped me and also if I got nervous I would push against my patch. I cannot say it really worked but in my little brain it did... . The main thing is to take it one day at a time and don't forget the rewards.....it does not have to be expensive but try to get something special for yourself...3 wks, 1 month, 6 weeks, etc, It is not easy but believe me, if I can do this ( I am a walking ticking time bomb) lol you can do it too!

Kay is right. This is definitely doable and we each have to do it in out own way. For me, cold turkey worked and keeping a journal.
I also agree about the reward. It's important that you reward yourself at intervals; a day, a week -- whatever works for you. My rewards were simple things but they made me feel wonderful.
Be easy on yourself and stay in touch. _________________

Thanks everyone. I have been very good about rewarding myself for my success of every day. I love movies and I am spending what I used to pay for cigs on a DVD at a second hand store. I'm building my collection and enjoying some great classic movies at the same time. Everyday my wife tells me something she likes about my not smoking.. how she can kiss me and I don't smell, or the towel in the bathroom does not smell after I have washed and dried my face. And so on. Everyday I see how my body is in healing mode. Yesterday it seems the 'staff meeting' on what to work on next was sense of smell. Wow, I was really missing all that, even the 'icky' smells. 14 days now and going strong. Baby carrots are my friend, when I need them.
Thanks again! |

Congrats on 14 smoke free days! Sounds like you have a good plan going, baby carrots and rewards Being able to "smell things" once again was a big deal to a lot of us, amazing what we missed. Keep us posted on your progress and enjoy the freedom _________________
