I HATE going to the doctor! I was fortunate enough to have no need of one almost my entire life, and for years and years and years, I didn't even have a regular doctor.

I have always hated taking pills too, but I take four different things now. Getting old SUCKS!

I was blaming smoking for keeping my sinuses stopped up all the time. I guess that was not the cause, since I have been off cigs for seven months and still cannot breathe through my nose well enough at night to keep my mouth closed. I wake up in the middle of the night with my mouth so dried out that my tongue wants to stick to the roof of my mouth. I am NOT getting that good deep sleep that we all need.

I have tried those breathing strips that you put on your nose, and they do help, but they don't solve the problem.

Tom

I have been quit for 7 Months, 1 Week, 1 Day, 12 hours and 9 minutes (221 days). I have saved $830.64 by not smoking 6,645 cigarettes. I have saved 3 Weeks, 2 Days, 1 hour and 45 minutes of my life.

Know what you mean, sometimes growing old does suck! BUt not all the time. I hope the doctor can help you. They can do all kinds of things with sinuses these days. DO you snore? Laughing

I don't like doctors either, but have had to see specialist all my life. Still leary. Never get use to it. Here I am 51 and still act like a baby. I have been putting off getting my cholestrol checked, (because I know its high) only because I don't want them to put me on a pill.

You have been fortunate that you have had good health most of your life. I wish you luck. Am looking forward to seeing more pictures. I will try to remember to take a picture of "Homer" so you can see him. He really is just a baby compared to yours.

Have a great day!

Love, Londa

Well, when they weighed me this time at the Doc, it showed that I had gained nine pounds since this past February. When the nurse told me that I had gained the nine pounds, I told her that it was OK, because I had grown two inches taller. Don't think she bought that, though. Smile

When the Doc saw me, he said that I was grossly overweight, and I told him I wanted a second opinion. He said, "OK, I think you are ugly too." Smile

Actually, he said he would take nine pounds of weight gain over continued smoking any day.

The Doc gave me some free samples of something that is supposed to open the sinuses, and he referred me to a sleep specialist. Guess I'm gonna have to take that sleep test like Margaret tried to take a couple weeks ago. Hope I have better luck with it than you did, Marg.

Tom, I know what you mean about docs and pills. I avoid both at all possible times. However, I hope what i'm hearing is not a back door back door to smoking again?

Thought not..you know better. I too am putting on some weight. Twn years ago, I would have been devestated and gone back to smoking. However, at 52, no one really looks at me that way anyhow, and I don't care so much. I'll take the weight off when I'm ready.

My cousin had the sleep apnea thing, and went on a machine at night. He said it's the best thing he ever did in his life. It made a huge difference. Also, the weight has something to with the breathing problem, and the sleep problem.....they are somehow connected. Get to the bottom of it, and I'm sure you'll feel like a million bucks again.

Meanwhile, I've stopped drinking, and I'm sleeping straight through 8-9 hours every night...like a baby! It's wonderful!

Hey, Tom~

I have to chime in on the weight issue. My DH lost a few pounds recently and he does sound a bit better at night. He stills snores, but that is from a broken nose issue. Rolling Eyes (And, no, I did NOT give it to him! LOL!!! Cool )

Hope this gets better for ya!

Slept well last night! Amazing what a good night's sleep can do for ya!

I used the nose spray the doc gave me and also one of those breathe-rite strips. The combination seems to have worked, and I don't think I woke up any during the night. My mouth was not all dried out this AM, so I guess I breathed through my nose all night.

Yeeeeeeeehawwwwwwww!!!!

I am supposed to see a sinus specialist Friday, and then I might need to see the sleep doc too.

I hope I ain't got that stupid "Sleep Apnea." It's just so "trendy!" No one ever heard of it until recently, and now everyone has it. Sad

I'm sure it is a real problem for some folks, but it just seems like they are diagnosing half the U.S. population with it nowadays.

Dear Tom,

Like you, I absolutely detest going to doctors and have always dreaded it like the plague. But...look where I ended up....in the hospital with weird symptoms. Sure wasn't worth it -- I dislike hospitals too.

I'm so glad you're taking care of yourself. You're too great a guy to be having any problems. Hang in there.

Don'tcha just love all the advice you get here? It's better than "Dear Abby".
So here's my 2 cents worth.

1) Alcohol consumption - too much makes you snore and get in to odd positions during the night which are not conducive to sleep.

2) Nasal cleansing pot - very gross idea (pouring warm salt water through your nose). But, since I started doing it I breathe through my nose easily for the first time in my life. Go Figure!

I think when you get this problem solved you'll be so much more rested. Might even cut down on your stress level.

Good Luck, guy!

Der Kaye,

You just brought back a wonderful memory of my Mom. She had trouble breathing at night also and used the salt water method; she called it "irrigating her nose." It was suggested to her by her physician. Boy, I hadn't thought of that in years. Thanks for the memory -- any memory of my Mom is a beautiful one.
