Well, I have to do something about controlling my caloric intake. I can not continue gaining weight, and I feel terrible because I'm not eating right.

It took a commitment to quit smoking and I guess it's going to take a commitment to lose some weight. Soooooo, I joined Weight Watchers yesaterday, and today is day one on the WW program. So far so good.

It's a very interesting program, which I am able to do on line. I am curious to hear if anyone has ever given it a try and how well did it work?

I'll let you guys know how it goes. Wish me luck.
Thanks, Terry

terry,

i joined ww about 4 weeks ago. i go to meetings, i've lost 6 pounds so far. it really works if you follow it. i have to work hard at it, now that i'm in my 40's the weight just doesn't want to leave me. i've been on their message boards reading quite a bit, i don't post much, some of those people are down right mean. good luck! oh are you doing core or flex?

Hey Wanda,
I'm doing Flex..... Core looked too restrictive. Sounds like it really works but I know what you mean about it getting harder the older I get. I too am 40 something.....

Terry,

i like flex, no food is a no no. i can eat whatever i want, just as long as i stay on point. my meeting was last night, i lost 2.8, thats a total of 8.8, which is about a third of what i gained since i quit smoking.

okay this is turning in to a ramble. this is a first for me. i've quit smoking so many times, i would make it to about 2 months, i can gain weight very quickly, so in the two months 20 pounds could be expected. then i would of course freak out and start back to smoking. what i didn't realize is if i wouldn't have caved in then, that was the worst of the weight gain, i was on the downhill slide. the second 2 months i quit didn't produce near the weight gain as the first two months. so at about 4-5 months i finally felt comfortable enough to start trying to control my weight. i'm very happy with myself, i'm not smoking and i'm losing weight. it can be done!

i'm not looking for pats on the back here, i just want to offer encouragement to any one with this same struggle, just be patient with yourself, and don't throw the quit away cause of some additional pounds.

(steps off soap box and walks away)

Terry, good luck. Let me know what you think about dieting on-line. I've been tempted to join, but I didn't know how effective it would be. If you find a good recipe you like, let me know.

Maybe we need to start a Forty-Something and Trying to Lose Weight Club.

Hey Terry, I lost 52 pounds on WW last year and I loved it. I've gained back 25 'cause of this smoking stuff so I recently rejoined. You'll love it, it's very easy. Remember if you do decide to do core, you still have 35 points a week. It does get harder to lose as you get older but we can do it. Kerry
