Last night, I went to see a pro boxing match. It was held at a casino near my home in Seattle. The match was great (if you like that sort of thing - I realize that not everyone does) but what really struck me was the intensely HORRIBLE reality of being a smoker. You see, to get to the boxing ring, we had to pass through a smokey casino. And just for an extra kick, we ate dinner in the "non-smoking" section of the casino restaurant, which was located just above the casino floor!
Needless to say, after 30 minutes in the casino/restaurant, my throat was sore, my eyes were stinging, my chest hurt like I'd just pounded a couple of camel unfiltereds, and of course my hair, clothes and skin stunk to high heaven.
This morning, my voice is raspy. I have taken a shower but I swear I can STILL smell the smoke. My throat is still sore.
Mainly, I wanted to report to anyone who is doubting the awesome-good aspects of quitting: stick with it. YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE HOW DISGUSTING smoking really is, once you have a little hindsight. _________________

i came home from bowling like that last week. i could smell it on my clothes and my coat. it amazes me that i was never able to know just how bad it smells. after i quit my i told my sister in law how bad it smelled, she's a smoker at the time, and she said i know. i told her no she didn't know, now that she has quit she agrees with me.
so tonight is bowling night again, i don't want to be one of those x-smokers, so i'll just try to stay further away from them. _________________

James, I can not agree more. My husband and I both say all of the time that we can not believe how nasty smoking is and how much it stinks. We find it most disgusting now and wonder how in the world we smoked for all of those years. What a waste. Good news we have kicked nicodemon in the head and we are free. _________________

James,
Thanks for sharing this with us....I was shopping in Mentone and got a whiff of some smoke....thought for a second I was having a crave..then no it was just the smell from someone passing.....I still cannot smell that great but at least I can tell I do not smell like that.

Thanks James, I just keep telling myself that my quit is so short compared to the years I smoked. It's just going to take time. It does get better. Thanks again, Kerry |

Yep, smoking is gross. I never want to be the smelly guy again, big part of how i motivated myself in the early days to stay quit. Smokers just smell bad.

James -
I can't beleive how much my clothes will smell like smoke after only a short visit to my smoking Dad, or my smoking friend. No wearing those clothes twice
When my son was real young, I used to take him to my sisters every now and then for her to watch him while I went out.
She would wash everything in the diaper bag, including the clothes and blankets he came in.
Way back then I thought she was a little overboard with it, but now I see why!
Nothing worse than a smoky smelling baby - yuck. _________________
