Hi All,
This is Eli, of the EliandRobyn dual. My dad is pushing 50, I am 25. He has smoked many years before I was a twinkle in his eye. I am guessing about 30-38 years smoking.
He has been so happy that we made it. He has been hounding us since we moved back to Canada to quit because tobacco is so expensive in canada. (75-90 a carton)
My father has quit a few times in his past. He actually has made it a few times for over a year at a time and then starting back up. He is going to need alot of support. More than I or Robyn can give. Please be there for him, like you were for us.
Thank you so much in Advance,
Eli and Robyn

Eli,
By all means, introduce him to Woofmang. Everyone here is so supportive. If he needs an ear to bend, questions answered, just wants to talk....hey...we're here for him.
And pat yourself on the back..right now! Your example has motivated him to quit. Now, that speaks volumes! Good for you! Remember education about the addiction is a big key to success. Direct him to FFS and whyquit.com. This is such wonderful news.....you two rock!

Newcomers are always welcome and we'll do all we can to help him through the tough times. Kris had a great suggestion, though. Suggest that he visit the ALA's ffs site and work the modules. They're very helpful. _________________

Well,
I tried to get him to quit.. My dad is very stubborn like me. He wants me to give him space and I respect that.
He said that he has been "gearing" himself up to quit. He is wanting to slow the pace first. Like see how many hours he can go without one, then go longer then next one etc etc.
It may be a while. Thanks again for everything

Here's an idea. Why not print all the modules at Freedom From Smoking for him to read? At least it will get him thinking even more about quitting. Some like to think in private and not be pushed. Just give him the printouts of the modules and let it take it's course. You never know, one night, he might just pick it up and start to read it.

Well, getting motivated is part of the FFS program. He doesn't have to be "ready" to start the Modules. He doesn't even really have to set a quit date until he wants. No harm is starting the Modules--they are what "gears" a person up! Also the getting ready by smoking less is called "Fading" and is part of the Modules. Fading and reading (the MOdules) works really well together.
Can you tell him this? He's Welcome to come on now! And you can do 2 Boards at the same time.
Good for you guys for your Quits, too!!!!! WTG!!

Eli, you and Robyn are great examples and support for him. One of these days, he will ask you how to get to this site. When he is ready, he will do it. And when he comes over.... WE WILL OPEN UP OUR ARMS AND GIVE HIM A GREAT BIG WELCOME!
And sing....
Gotta get back to work!
God Bless! Love, Londa _________________
