Well just posting to say it has been 3 hours since I quit smoking and things are going ok.
It feels funny today- kind of like a holiday or something. You know that feeling that a day is special- it is a little exciting but a little hellish thus far.
I've got the patch on and it is definately helping a lot- I'm not very irritable and I don't have a headache or anything. I do want a cigarette very badly and think i'm feeling some physical cravings as well as psychological- and whenever I think of this evening I get very worried since I smoked the most before bed time-but I've got to take it one step at a time I guess. I think the NRT is definately the right choice for me- I'm such a compulsive person that I just don't see myself making it cold turkey. Knowing that I absolutely can't smoke with the patch on (or else i'd be in for more of the awful overdose symptoms i had yesterday with the lozenge--- or worse) means that I'd have to really make the deliberate action of removing the patch and then waiting a couple of hours before smoking- so I won't do it.

Just remember that those cravings will go away, whether you smoke or not......so just don't smoke! You can do this.

Cathy
You are experiencing some physical withdrawal because the patch is not providing as much nicotine as you do when you repeated light up and the patch is giving you nicotine in a constant steady dosage. When you smoke you inhale bursts of nicotine. THat is why you are experienceing withdrawal. But you are not having the withdrawal as hard as you would had you gone cold turkey. While is it Nicotine Replacement Therapy it is also a "step down process".....weaning you off the nicotine. So that when you do take off the patch for the last time your body will be used to less. You sound very determined and committed to this quit. You can do it. You will be so happy with this choice. Keep posting. THere will be someone here to respond. Keep it up Girl.....doing great!!!!!!!!!!!
