You are still getting nicotine, but you are NOT getting all of the health risks associated with smoking! Your lungs are in the process of healing. Not an MD, but I believe not only your lungs, but other other areas, like your circulatory system, are also recovering from the damage done by smoking.
If you stayed on the patch the rest of your life, you would still be much better off than if you continued to smoke.
The idea of the patch is to gradually get you off of nicotine. Your patches decrease in strength as you go through the various stages. You will eventually be off of nicotine, but in the meantime, not only is your body is no longer being damaged by smoking, but you are actually healing.
Stick with it! You are doing great.
