Hi my name is Beth and I have been a smoker for more years than I care to admit to...I now want to be a non smoker. Not only for health reasons but over the summer while traveling via plane and having lay overs I realized how much smoking controled my life. During the lay over I would venture outside the secure areas just to have a smoke and have to go back through security. I realized that my life seemed to be planned around smoking without me ever realizing it. I realized that I put a lot of energy into smoking. Many years ago when I lived in the Northern New York I would go out during a snow storm if I ran our of cigarettes. I would shovel the drive way, scrape the car windows, for no other reason but to get my fix. For years I would without realizing it put time, energy and money into getting cigarettes and smoking them. It controlled me. I no longer want to be controlled by the cigarette. A cigarette is so much smaller than I am, yet I allowed it to dominate me. Quitting is hard, but if I found the energy in the past to let it dominate me. I can find the energy to battle the addiction. I am so glad to have found this sight. I know that I am not the only one going through the quit. I know I will find inspiration from the members in here. Thank you and I look forward to getting to know the people here. |

welcome Beth, this is a great site full of information and friendship to help you achieve your goal...we are some very good quitters... take it one day at a time and try to focus on what you will gain and not what you are leaving behind.

Hi Beth! Congrats on taking back your life! I smoked for over 24 years - when I quit five years ago - I couldn't remember a time when I didn't smoke - I've re-claimed my freedom - nicotine no longer rules my world!
It is amazing when you understand the power and control cigarettes and smoking have on your life! You are starting down a new path! Enjoy it - and post away!! Lots of experienced quitters here! Remember - you CAN do it!! Just take it one day at a time!! You are doing GREAT! _________________

Hi Beth and welcome to the site. That was the very reason I quit over 5 1/2 years ago, I was sick of being controlled. It has been great not having to freeze half to death just to feed the beast! We look forward to getting to know you too! _________________

Hi Beth... now that I said that (I LOVE NOT SMOKING) and this is the wonderful place that helped me be three years free last August. Folks here on the woof, well they're the best you'll find for support and crying with you when you need it and a quick kick in the butt when you need that too.... a little bird (thanks Kay) told me a fellow Texan had signed up and I might want to welcome them... so welcome
and Tonya... you were here when I got started and were doing so well... you were an inspiration to me in the beginning of my quit - okay so get back in the saddle. You can do it. That's what you and everybody else here told me... over 3 years ago... August 14, "You can do it!"
I still love all you guys. Been busy, have been building web sites and selling at a new online place called bonanzle.com and in general continuing to be happy I'm no longer am a slave to Nicodemon. I do not miss smoking one bit and my quit meter said I'd saved like 10 thousand bucks or some crazy figure... don't know where it went but it didn't go up in a puff of smoke LOL
Have also been paying forward the help I got here, I have helped three friends I met at Bonanzle quit smoking, one is at 8 months the other at 6 months and the newest one just quit 11 days ago. I keep telling them all the same things I learned here...
So hang in here Beth, these people are fantastic support - it doens't get any better than than the woof... and Tonya... you can do it again
And Kevin, HUGE thanks for continuing to leave the porch light one for those who wish to find their way out of the dark
