As you all know that know me that I do not work and haven't worked since about 1996. Well, today in the neighborhood bar I've been going to for the past 3 years on and off I was offered a job. One of the other customers in there whom I have known for the past 3 years in there and I got to talking today. He's in his own real estate business and he wants me to take pictures of the houses he sells. He gave me his business card and when I left the bar he told me he is serious about it.

My problem is that I have this inner voice telling me I'm not good enough to with taking pictures to do this. I need some positive cheering that I can do this and some suggestions as to what to charge him. He mentioned about paying per house deal. I plan to offer to upload them to the banks that he sends the pictures to.

i think you'll do fine. find some houses near you and take some pictures for practice; you'll figure it out. Smile

as to what to charge, that depends on what the job entails: does he want a couple of pictures of the exterior? maybe $20. exteriors plus shots of all the rooms inside? maybe $50. throw a number at him and see what he says, or ask him what he was thinking, and decide if it's worth your time to do it for that money. play it by ear.

Thank you Kevin,

When I talked to him this evening he says that he gets about 3 pictures per room and more of the kitchen inside. He also said to get one one on the outside of the front and back of the house each. And also one with the address on it if available. I hope to meet him out to dinner somewhere to discuss the details. I like your idea of taking pictures of other houses 1st. This weekend I will be going out with a friend to the river or airport to take pictures. I was thinking about $20 per house. He said it only takes about 20 minutes to do the pictures of each house. I need to think of some questions to ask him when I discuss it with him.

I have seen your pictures you have posted, you will do just fine. Go for it, we all know you like taking pictures, you will be doing something you enjoy and get some bucks to make it better.

I think $20 a house is too cheap. I would start with at least $50 and see what he says.

Wow, this is great, Barbara! You will do a great job and you will love it.

You can negotiate a trial period price with a renegotiating expectation after a certain amount of time or number of jobs you've done. At that point you can re-evaluate your time and resource commitment based on your experience. Kevin's suggestion to practice on houses is a great idea. Do that and have a conversation with people about what they see and don't see that is useful to the objective of the image. You will begin to have these conversations come back as you stand in front of the houses that you are photographing. This kind of experience will also give you quality that people will pay for.

Congratulations again!~

Ask $100 per house, negotiate down to $75 per house, $20 is way to cheap.

And take a look at some of the realty web sites to see what their house pictures look to see what others are posting - you'll see what you like and what doesn't work as well for angles and persceptives! I think its a great opportunity!

After talking to the guy today he told me there are about 5 houses a day to do and he deals in a 60 mile radius. He said that most are in a 30 mile radius though. I don't even like driving that much to be driving that much. I can possibly see doing a 30 miles radius if push came to shove but not a 60 mile radius. I got all nervous when he told me this and excused myself and came home. I'm still be unsettled.

That's unfortunate - I guess the houses can't come to you - and then you have to consider the expenses related to your vehicle - gas, wear and tear. You might want to think about a GPS to get you to your destination. I hope you've settled a little....he really threw you a curve...I hope it works out for you.

I think you would be very good at taking the pictures but I can also see your point about the mileage...also going to places unfamiliar....best of luck on your decision...you have all ready come so far...
