Life just keeps getting better without the cigarettes! I barely remember smoking all of those 17 years...
I wanted to drop by to toot my own horn as a way of cheering on the new quitters.
I have just completed a week-long bike ride across Iowa. 454 miles with hills and head winds. My lung capacity was maxxed out all of the time and I loved it! I rode fast and kicked butt! I believe that quitting smoking has resulted in all good things while smoking all of those years only shut doors to me and made me miserable. I hope everyone here can take the new opportunities for success and shine!
Thanks to everyone as always. The light is always on here and it means so much! _________________

Wow that's some bike ride! Congrats!
By my reckoning that's would be about 25,000 calories you burned up there!!!

My computer measured 35,000. I think the hills and sustained exercise may increase the calories spent. There is plenty of food on a ride like that though! With over 20,000 riders, vendors are all over the place. Best foods: Fruit Kabobs, Farm Boys Egg Burritos and everything from Garden of Eden. Nom Nom... _________________

That's impressive I've been reckoning about 50-60 calories per mile! 454 miles certainly puts the 21 miles I did last night to shame Might go out an do it again tonight though the weather looks good!
While I can happily do single rides of 60-80 miles I don't know how I'd fare repeating that several days on the trot and when it comes to hilly rides that must take it out of you big time.
Lots of respect

Thanks. It's probably a ton of adrenaline that pulls everyone through. I was training at long rides of 70-80 miles and back to back 50 or so to see how it would feel. Training was almost harder because the momentum of all of the other riders was missing. It's a great week, you should do it next year! _________________
