well, today makes the 2 month mark, and I am happy to say it is getting easier. Last month I was not quite sure that I would make it - in 4 weeks I had gained 8 pounds and I was an emotional wreck on top of it.
I joined a gym at that point, and I have been going there and working HARD. An hour of cardio in the morning, 6 days a week. In the evening I alternate weight training and another half hour of cardio, 5 days a week. I have been watching what I eat, and in the last 4 weeks I have lost 7 of those 8 pounds. The really amazing thing is what all the exercise has done for my state of mind. I don't know how it works, but I am not anxious and irritable anymore - seems the exercise is just the outlet that I needed.
I still have my moments, but they are fewer and farther between. Just thought I would let you know how I was doing.

Exercise was exactley what I needed too in the early weeks of my quit. It raises seratonin levels and just lifts you out of that fog and funk! I love your attitude and I love your willingness to do what it takes to keep this going!! What a healthy and great alternative.........I recommend everyone do some form of exercise...if for nothing else....but a mood enhancer.....

Atriana

Thanks for the motivation!

The only thing that really concerns me about quitting is the possible weight gain. This morning you've smacked me right across the face with a big WAKE UP CALL. Shocked Shocked That's....How am I going to control gaining weight it when I quit?

Thanks for the answer too!!!! Exercise! Not possible to go to a gym, but bike riding will work. I guess I need to start now. Just hope the weather holds!! Very Happy

Dear Deb,

Yes, weight gain can be an issue but, as the doctor told me last week, better be a non-smoker with a few extra pounds than a smoker with an hourglass figure.

During the 1st 3 months of my quit, I didn't worry about weight and, yes, I gained. Now, however, I feel very comfortable being a non-smoker and am concentrating on getting rid of the extra pounds.

You may be able to do both at the same time; I wasn't. Giving up cigarettes took my total concentration and this worked for me.

Whatever method you use, I wish you only the best. Stay with the boards.

Hurrah for endorphins. Did you know that laughing also releases endorphins? As does eating hot peppers.

You're doing great. Keep it up. Smile
