Hello to all, I hope this material isn't to offensive, if it is I apolagise.
My name is Jeri, I come for a big family, my parents had 7 childrend. My father owned his own buisiness and was an alcoholic, never there for us. I was melested when I was 12 by my father. I grew up and married a man that beat me, I had a daughter with him. I divorced when my daughter was 3, I raised her on my own for 10years, working 2 jobs. when she was 9 I met his Dr and dated him for 1 year, I had sergery at a hospital when I was there he melested her. When she was 13 years old she decided to move in with her abusive father who she never knew, I went to court and faought againts it knowing what it would be like. The judge said she was old enough to make her own choice. A couple of years later her father started beating on her and I went an got her in the middle of the night. I remarried a wonderful man 5 years agp and now have a son.
Through all of my tribulations, I am a happy person. I look at the positives in my life and thank God for helping thorugh all of this. Nomatter what we go through in our lives we have to be strong and pick out the positives in our lives and count our blessings . There are so many people out there that have had much worse lives then me and some not at all. We only live once on this earth, and it is very important to live happy healthy lives nomatter what it takes. Love and blessings to everyone. Wink Jeri

Jeri,
It sounds like you have had a rough go of it...I understand. I can also see that you have become a very strong woman since your first few posts. I hope to see you continue to emerge through the smokescreen.
Kay

your post reminded me of what one of the great thinkers of the last century, Victor Frankl, said in his book "Man's Search for Meaning":

"Everything can be taken from a man but the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."

this book was written after Dr. Frankl spent most of world war two as a prisoner in nazi concentration camps like auschwitz and dachau...

as the old saying goes, "pain is mandatory; suffering is optional".

Jeri ~ I'm so touched by your sharing. That's some rough stuff you've been through and I feel honored that you chose to share it with us. I also love the way you look for the positives. That is something I've been working on to overcome my own family legacy of negative thinking, self-pity, and shame. I think you are doing great!

I think Kevin's post regarding Frankl was right on :
Quote:
"Everything can be taken from a man but the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."

I also think it was Eleanor Roosevelt who said, "No one can make you feel inferior unless you let them" or something along those lines.

Keep up the good work Smile

Jeri, you said alot, in a very short space. Right to the fact, and onto the present. Sometimes when others share, it helps us realize, we do not walk in such different shoes. When we find ourselves getting stuck on our own pasts, (that which we cannot go back and change), I think it is good to read of someone else's life, as you said, some had it harder, some, not hard. How would one know of compassion, or even be able to understand where someone was coming from who had been hurt so bad, if we never experienced anything hurtful or difficult in our own life, to cause such pain. I think it is a very remarkable BLESSING that you have found happiness in life, you chose to. You must have made a decision to still be able to see the good in people, and that you have. I am happy for you in that you have found happiness in your life. And for your choice, to see the positives, the blessings, that come from God. And just how He does, indeed help us through life's many hardtimes, as well as being there for us in the good times as well. Thanks for sharing, May God be with you Jeri, sincerely, Heidi
