Very Happy Hi all,

I spent a whole lot of time learning mail merge online working with letters and evelopes. My teacher tells me tonight that most businesses use labels because the printers produce heat that moistens the envelops shut. I thought for some reason that I would need to know how to use mail merge on envelopes more than on labels when I 1st learned it. Crying or Very sad

On the good side, I did learn some other things tonight. For one thing, Windows 2000 is a lot different than XP. But that's the important stuff. I learned about Headers and Footers. I also have down here to always mark "whole words" with the "replace with" command but I haven't a clue how to get to that. I mostly learned some more of the upper case of the keyboard tonight.

Blessings,

Very Happy Well, after thinking I realized I can probably do the label mail merge by just figuring it out. I also found the Replace option under View.

I think it's wonderful that you're attending classes to learn more about the computer. As Kevin wrote, learning is never a waste of time. I have the "Idiot" book to help me out when the computer defies my commands. Sometimes I understand it; others not but it's still fun to feel I've accomplished a new goal. Keep at it. Confused

Very Happy Thanks Kevin, you are so right, learning is never a waste of time.

Very Happy Thanks Jo, I have some PC for Dummies books and like them the best. It does feel good to accomplish something after learning it.

I use mail merge and print addresses on envelopes all the time. (Be sure to immediately open the back of the envelope after it comes out - because if you don't the heat WILL fuse the glue on the envelope and it will be sealed without the letter inside!) I think it looks "classier" than a label, personally - and certainly far better than my handwriting. If nothing else, you won't be hand addressing your holiday cards again, will you!?

Very Happy Thanks ZuZu,

I feel like entering the names and addresses for the Holiday cards already.

Very Happy I was browsing in Yahoo this morning for volunteer jobs in my city and found one doing mass mailings. While I do not know all the details yet without calling 1st, I have my fingers crossed that this will turn out to be something I can do to use what I have learned in mail merge. I've already downloaded a template from MS do do a Resume'. I also need to get up my list of references ready if I want to be ready to apply for this. Sometimes volunteer jobs can turn into paying jobs one day too.

Barb, look how much you are learning. You really have initiative to learn new things. The computer scares me...I guess it is the terminology that throws me....

Very Happy Thanks all,

Pam, the computer use to scare me to death at one time but I've gotten over it a lot. I still get kind of worried sometimes that I may do something terribly wrong, but computers are user friendly and I just need to remind myself of that.
