Hi All,
It's been a long while since i've posted; however, I wanted to share that I still occasionally have the smoking dream. In the dreams, I know I've quit, but choose to smoke anyway. I always feel regretful in the dream too. Last night, my dream was so vivid I could actually smell cigarette smoke as I was waking up...but then of course it went away once I was fully awake.
I am one year and 7 months into my quit and still plugging along. I do fine during my waking hours. Occasionally I have a fleeting urge when I'm having a glass of wine or experiencing something that I used to smoke through, but nothing that I struggle with.
The dreams don't really bother me, I'm sure it's just another step in the recovery process. It's just surprising to me that I still continue to have them.
Anyway, hope everyone is doing well...

Rach,
It is so nice to see(hear) from you. It has been awhile and I am glad you are still smoke free. There are many of us still smoke free and many who have relapsed but we are all still in this fight together.

Rachel,
The important thing to remember is that it is only a dream. For the past couple of nights believe it or not I have had the same dream except, I smoke the entire cig and enjoy it but, the strangest thing is that I am (even though asleep) fully aware that it's a dream. Sounds nuts doesn't it.
Your doing great, keep up the quit.

HI Rach, It's good to see you. I have strange smoking dreams occasionally, but mine are more related to times when I get upset about something. Seems like I take to smoking in my sleep, which always leaves me feeling guilty. Very weird! But I am still smoke-free also--a year and a half Sept 12, and in fact, have not had any struggles until this week, when the Flood occurred in New Orleans. But I will persevere.
Deb, I forget the name of that kind of dreaming, when you know you are dreaming while you are dreaming, but it does have a name.....ah, ha! ...it is called "lucid" dreaming, I believe. Anyway, the point is that you can wake yourself up easily, if you visualize yourself waking up while you are dreaming. This is easy, since you already know you are dreaming. Just say to yourself before you go to sleep that you will have that option. Anyway, worked for me years ago when I used to have "lucid" nightmares, following an assualt made on me by a parent of a student. I had tried everything, but this actually worked. Although......in your case, if it is not a nightmare, you might want to just look at it as only a dream, which is all it is. BTW: You are doing great with your Quit! _________________
