my mother always said that the two subjects one should never discuss in polite company were religion and politics. and she was right; there's too much room for misunderstanding and conflict with either one. there have been times here when i've stepped in and removed threads that had degenerated into (or started as) political arguments, and i've asked you all to refrain from starting - or participating in - such threads; they serve no useful purpose here, and generally lead to hard feelings on one or more peoples' part.
this morning, i've had a number of private messages relating to the above-referenced thread: at least half of them were from members who were not at all involved in the thread, but who were uncomfortable with its presence for a number of reasons. i decided to remove the thread and to remind everyone that the purpose of this forum is to create a community based on mutual support by and for people who have quit smoking or are in the process of quitting.
period.
once again, i would ask you to please consider, before posting a thread, or a response to someone else's post, if what you're about to post is intended to help someone quit smoking or maintain their quit, and if that is not the intent of your post, to refrain from posting it.
thanks in advance for your cooperation. _________________
