i hope everyone is doing fine. I have been pretty busy with university and other things thats why i have been away.
I've been quit for more than 5 months but i have to confessed that I have had about three cigarretes in different ocassions. I dont know what cam eonto me but when i was offered i took one and lit it up and felt it again....but it felt weird...like the first time i ever smoked...but you know what? I didnt enjoy it at all!! it felt foreign...like something that i'd never done (quite a paradoxical contradiction there!) i had a few puffs and put it out cos i couldnt stand it, but i still smoked. same thing happened a couple of times in other parties i've been to.

funnily i didnt get hooked at all. the first time i smoked, it was about 4 months after i quit and the next day i felt really bad. I dont want to go down that road ever again cos I'm so happy i am no longer hooked on nasty nicotine. I dont want to be weak again. when i look at people smoking on the street, i think they look so stupid, inhaling toxic fumes, for what? nothing, just satisfying that little hideous vicious monster...

but at the same time i miss the company.. the perfect excuse for a break or socialising with an stranger in the bar...i had to learn to do all this without cigarretes....I've gained about 4 kilos and my body is still gettinbg used to the healing process. I've had all sorts of things, from fainting episodes to piles and it feels like my body is so different. I'm having a hard time coming to terms with my healthy being, believe it or not. I'm only 22 years old, but I'm going through a process that is making me realise that i'm getting old and my body is not as supple and i thought it used to be.

sorry about the long ramblings but i'm a bit confused. february 14th will be 6 months since i quit. i feel a little empty, but i dont want to fill that gap with cigarretes.

lots of love to you all

Hi Faby! Glad to have you back and letting us know how you are doing.

I'm sure there are some people here who are conflicted about your having smoked AT ALL...EVEN ONE PUFF....and still calling yourself quit. It can be a big controversy with people who quit smoking.

However, I'm glad to see you back, and it sounds like you need some reinforcement. I'm sensing in your post that you are bringing out some arguments in your head about the positives and negatives of smoking (according to your logic...in my logic, there are NO positives).

I'd like to suggest that you visit a site called whyquit.com, and there you'll find an article called "Nicodemon's Lies". I highly suggest it for reinforcement as to why you quit, and some of the stinkin'thinkin' that can creep back into your brain to try and justify smoking at all.

I'm hearing this especially when you talk about "missing" the company and comraderie of smoking, and the weight thing. These are two classic excuses that we use to try to justify what is, simply, an addiction.

It sounds like Laughing Demon is trying to get at you, and that he's getting the upper hand. At almost 6 months quit, you still need to be very strong and SAY NO...EVEN TO ONE PUFF. Maybe this time you didn't go back to smoking full time, but it sounds like you are trying to convince yourself that this might not be a bad thing. Do not make the mistake of thinking that smoking will make you better, thinner, stronger, or ANYTHING EXCEPT MORE ADDICTED.

I wish our old friend Barb the "Cravinator" were here, as she would take her "crave" exterminator and demolish any of this addiction stinkin' thinking' that you are having. However, consider this post an official "beating" of Laughing Demon for you.

You stay strong, and the only way to do that is to NEVER put a lit cigarette between your lips...no way, no how, no lame excuses.

Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Faby,

I agree with Pam. Be careful Scowling Demon will try and suck you back in and make you think it's ok to just have a couple of puffs. We cannot. I think that you were lucky that you did not get sucked back into smoking full time. Your quit is too important and you shouldn't take any chances.

Stay near the boards and let us know how your doing.

Hi Faby,

I would strongly recommend that you educate yourself on your addiction. Click on the "LINKS" at the top of this page.....make sure you read Kevin's "Tales" and go to the "Getting Quit" section "Stacking the Odds" at the top.

As an addict....we can NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF. You're playing Russian Roulette by continuing to occasionally smoke....one puff or not. You've worked hard to start the "quit" process now you need the determination to actually BE quit. It is a choice.

You're young .....you have your whole life ahead of you....just keep going.

Dear Fab,

I totally agree with Pam.....I just went through all most 7 months with no nicotine, then I slipped and smoked 5......yes the first one made me sick, hurt my lungs, I laid down for about 30 min....... but having that one brought back my addiction, man, I was hit with a full blown urge to smoke...No ands if's or but's, my addiction needed that fix, and to top it off I was under some emotional stress......I let my guard down, I chose that fix....

So starting off with seeing it as an occasion for just fun with old friends is very misleading and will lead you back to your addictive self......

The Nicodemon Lies is so true, we gave that cancer stick value, we gave it our time and it gives us an early death....

Give this quit your all, because believe me that poison will take your alll....

Keep on quitting one day at a time, you truly are worth a life free from the poison,

Pam

Pamela summed it up well. I quit many times before I really quit....and every time I lost it, I'm sorry to say I was doing just what you are doing.....having one, then not anymore for a while, then another, and so on, until in a month or so I was back to smoking, sometimes it took longer, but it was a LOST quit, nevertheless. I discovered that I can never have one, not ever!...and best of all, that after a few months, if I just ignore the occasional twinge, then those twinges go away entirely!! Smile

Get back on the quit Fullltime, and kick some butt!! Get rid of that Nick for good. One way to do that is to come here often! We will kick him for you. Laughing

It's great to see you back here. Very Happy Hope ouare here all the time now! BTW: The "Nicodemon Lies'" are really helpful, too. Smile
