Mom has COPD and she never smoked...but she lived with a smoker (my dad) for alot of years - they had been married for over 33 years when my dad died...
I'm afraid we are losing mom now...she's having a really hard time breathing - it just started late last week and now they have her on oxygen. She's been in a nursing home for other reasons for over a year...and now I think she is just tired of living. It makes me cry...I was in tears yesterday when I left her to drive back to Pittsburgh - I'm trying to decide if I need to go back to Erie - but I think I'll wait and she how she does on oxygen and a different breathing treatment. I don't want her to be uncomfortable. I always say goodbye to her like it could be the last time...
The "COPD" is a new development for mom...I thought maybe she had pneumonia but the chest x-ray didn't show that - but the doctor says COPD. Not many treatment options...but I have to admit watching her struggle has reinforced my desire to stay quit - I wish I could breath for her...please keep her in your prayers...I pray for angles to be with her and me too.... _________________

Mary,
I'm sorry to hear about your mom. My heart goes out to you.
You know, we never know in this life what we are going to be dealt. It's hard watching our loved ones suffer so much as they get older. I'm sitting here myself waiting to go to a viewing of a lifetime friend(s), who's dad just passed away due to liver cancer. I grew up with these guys and their dad. So, it's like losing family....Anyway, my point is, we are getting at the age where we will be facing issues of severe illness and death of our parents and other elders in our life. It's a part of life we enter into with our age.
Mary, I'll be praying for her and you. Just know to love her right now, because we don't know the time or place of anything further than right now today. It's not easy, and very sad...and the heart breaks and tears in pieces. It's what makes us human....the love and compassion that we feel for others. And you, sweet lady, have lots of both.
Love, Hugs, and Prayers {{{{{{Mary}}}}}} _________________

Mary,
I was so sad to read your post about your mother. Hopefully the doctors will find a way to control it so that her breathing becomes more effortless.
Having lost my mother and younger sister, I know what you're going through; the concern, worry, not knowing, well just everything. It's even more difficult for you since you're not in a position to make regular visits.
I'll keep you and your mother in my prayers. Mary, you absolutely know there are angels around her. We are never alone. _________________

Footprints in the Sand
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed
he was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand: one belonging
to him, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he
questioned the LORD about it:
"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me."
The LORD replied:
"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."
