I'm a little obsessed with my stats for obvious reasons. I don't have my meter at work but I am 11 months, 2 weeks, and misc. hours and minutes quit. I have not smoked over 7000 cigarettes and saved over $1200. _________________

I voted for the trip, and I think you need to bring a new friend along...which one? I'll leave that up to you _________________

I think you should (1) take a vacation, preferably a cruise and (2) wear your new jewely when you (3) eat dinner at the captain's table with your friends. (I couldn't work the race in there.) Before you depart on your cruise I think your friends should have a parade for you--you deserve it. _________________

I think one year of not smoking deserves some time to ones self!! Or with loved ones!!! You've got me thinking of taking a Jamaican/Carribean holiday when I reach my year!! I'll probably never come back!!! congratulations Alison and whatever you do, I know it'll be rockin'!!

My cousin wants me to take an Alaskan cruise with her in August. I say, pack your bags and come with us! (Oh, and a small bagette would be OK too!) _________________

i voted for the jewelry. after all, a vacation would be nice, but you'd eventually have to come home; a race would be fun, but it'd get you all sweaty, and you'd still have to come home; dinner would be great, but you'd only get hungry again; and you can always find some excuse to get together with friends (like to show off your new jewelry)...
besides, diamonds are a girl's best friend, aren't they?
oh, yeah - stats - it'll be 2.5 years in a couple of days, i've chosen not to smoke about a metric ton of cigarettes, saved a bundle, and will probably live longer, too. and be happier!

I agree with Kevin on this. Maybe we have been conditioned to think jewelry when it is a big deal !
Seriously, one year smoke free is a really big deal. To have something tangible; something that will last the rest of your life just like your quit, something that you can see and touch to remind you of what is maybe the most important or one of the most important things that you have done in your life.... it's up to you, but enjoy whatever choice you make and congratulations on your upcoming 1st year Smoke Free

I had voted for the vacation, but I like Kevins reasons even better, go for the jewelry, something you can look at the rest of your life to remind you what a wonderful thing you have done for yourself. _________________

Alison,
I voted for the vacation. I agree that a piece of jewelry is a nice tangible symbol of your achivement, but think the intangibles are just as important. I always thought I would travel a lot, but things do happen. I am so glad I did take my one trip to Europe, and that I did it when I was young enough to do a lot of walking and standing. Those memories are forever mine, and vey precious to me. I hope you make some precious memories for yourself. You so deserve it! _________________

For some reason I couldn't cast my vote. I feel quite disenfranchised.
Well, I'd vote for the 5K. You could probably do that in your sleep and then feel really good about the accomplishment. Plus, it's sort of cool to have hundreds of people running with you and even more cheering you on. It's a good feeling. But, then of course, you need a reward for running the 5K, and that should be a vacation. You deserve the best, so celebrate! |
