I play ping pong regularly at office. But today, after 5 months of quit, I suddenly had shortness of breath and got really tired suddenly. Do you guys think its normal after quitting or is it something else? I'm scared _________________

What was the temperature? Might be just the heat. Not smoking related at this point. _________________

it's probably worth a trip to the doctor (assuming you have a health plan ), but i agree with melody that it's unlikely to be related to the quit... _________________

I'll chime in and say....call the doc and getting checked out. If it is persistent and/or severe - get to an Emergency room...could be several things that come to mind - but definitely get checked. I don't think what you experienced is related to your quit.... _________________

I do have medical insurance and all that. Its just that I've always been super scared of going to see the doctors. Yeah, I'm 29 years old, but still cant go see the doctor alone. I need someone to take me... thats the problem.
I used to be mildly asthmatic when I was a kid. But I havent had any symptoms for like 20 years. I think its acting up again due to change in weather (I recently moved to TX) _________________

I was just about to suggest the asthma possibility, when you posted it. That is a serious condition, as I'm sure you must know. So you should definitely have yourself checked over by a doc.
I have found a lot of men won't go to doctors alone. (I just never knew why before! )
You can get someone to go....keep asking, pull in a favor....or hire someone to go with you. I have done this, it is a little expensive, but works fine. There are agencies for it. You don't have to say why you want someone with you.....just that you have symptoms and would like to have an escort. _________________

Hi Ashish,
I don't have anything to add to the sound advice you have already received. Just wanted to let you know I hope everything is ok!
Best wishes,

Hi Ashish. Welcome to old age, as you are pushing the big "three-oh).
ONLY KIDDING
Really, I think the Texas heat and humidity, and maybe different air quality, may be acting on you. It's probably nothing (Hey, I still get winded a little at times, more because I'm out of shape, not the smoking thing).
I'm with you on not going to the doctor unless I'm half dead, but here's teh thing. If the incident bothered you enough to write about it here, then it's worth checking out. It's better to feel silly if it's nothing, than to regret that you never went if it ends up being anything serious.

I just wanted to remind you...."don't mess with Texas". Sorry, couldn't resist.
Seriously, every region really is different. So many different plants and even insects. My "internet m.d" advice is to not worry unless you continue to have shortness of breath, you'll adjust to big ole TEXAS!!!
Hope you feel better! _________________

Is "Air Quality" measured in the part of Texas where you're currently living? It is here and today it's "orange." The next step would be "red" which is the worse possible. At this quality it does effect breathing if you already have a pre-existing condition, i.e. asthma.
Do you have a company doctor or nurse you could see? Does your health plan have a Nurse Assist program you could call? Please don't let this go. It's probably the change in climate but wouldn't hurt to know for sure. _________________

Ashoo,
If you moved from the cooler part of the country into the hotter part you are not use to the heat of Texas. Also, I've heard that the air quality is bad in Texas for allergies. You may have developed allergies as an adult if you didn't already have it. Please get it checked out though and let us know if you are okay.

Hi guys,
I'm okay so far. I still have the symptoms, but not as bad as before. I think I'm getting better now.
And yeah Barbara, I moved from Michigan to Conneticut to Texas. The heat is too much for me. Some other person also told me how notorious Texas is for bringing out allergies in you.
I'm going to visit my parents on Saturday (they're in India.) So, I'll have someone to take me to the doctor I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for the concern. _________________

ashoo,
how long have you been there? i remember learning when i was in the army that it takes about 2 weeks for your body to get used to a new climate. but if it goes on much longer than that i would get it checked out.

Here is the latest update.
There is an infection in my respiratory system (brochitis. Hope its not chronic ) Doctor said that I will get better but the life expectancy of my lungs is 77 years. So I have 48 years to live .
I'm flying to India tomorrow, so may not be online that often. But I will keep you guys updated.
Thanks for the concern. And thanks for all your support. _________________
