|
|
Today was the day to take the Army Physical Fitness Test and Weigh In. Reserve drill weekend! The APFT is three events - pushups, sit ups and a two mile run. I've been working toward this test since I started running in June. I don't like doing sit ups so I did other ab work. The push ups have always been hard for me - but I worked at them - doing them every other day and working on upper body strength. The first time I ran two miles back in June, my time was fast enough to pass - so I've just tried to go a little faster. Today was the culmination of all that work. I DID IT!! 14 push ups / 38 sit ups / 2 miles in 20 min 10 sec. And then after that - the weigh in - I was ONE POUND under my screening weight which meant I did NOT have to do the tape test to calculate percent body fat.
NONE of that would have been possible if I had not quit smoking! The run was amazing...it felt so good and I loved not worrying about being able to finish it...I KNEW I COULD DO IT!!! My lungs were working GREAT!
I'll be establishing a new goal....improve my score on the NEXT APFT which will be in the spring.... a little harder to run in the winter months...but I will continue to exercise...and do more sit ups and push ups.
It was fabulous!!! I've been in uniform Thursday and Friday for training and a records review. Today and tomorrow for drill weekend. It really feels good... _________________

Awesome Mary!
I always admired women in the military, after all I spent 20+ years in the USAF. You go girl. And keep raising that bar. I know you will succeed!
Warm regards,
