Hello everyone,

I saw my pulmonary doctor last week and he ordered a cat scan and breathing tests....He called me Sat night with the results ( this man is the ultimate considerate doctor). The good news he told me was that I did not have any of the other stuff he tested me for Laughing Laughing but the bad news was that I had lost some more ground on my breathing test. The CT scan had not changed which is ok I guess but I am trapping more air in my lungs and taking in less oxygen.

He has added Singulair and another inhaler to help. He feels the good news to it all is that I am showing more signs of being asthmatic than anything else...either way, the stairs are a bummer and to be honest, just about any assertion gets me to panting....other than that, he said I looked just peachy.... (smartass Laughing Laughing )

Now, I will have to go back the Monday after Easter more some more blood work and tests and he wants me to see a urologist....I said man...dont go looking for anything else to slow this old woman down because I have a lot of living to do.. Laughing Laughing

PS. When he called in my scripts today, he asked the pharmacist to call me to let me know it was ready.....hey am I special or what Laughing Laughing
Kay

i want your doctor. Wink

sorry to hear there's been some less than great news for you, kay, but you can live with asthma; the inhalers work really well, and you don't necessarily have to stay on them forever.

and yeah, you are. Smile

Hi Kay,

It sounds like you're in the hands of a very good doctor. There's always going to be something as we continue to age.

But we've done the absolute best thing we ever could to take care of ourselves.....we quit smoking!

Many good thoughts of healing coming your way.....

Donna

Hi, Kay. Sorry to hear about the diagnosis but, as you may remember, I was diagnosed with asthma shortly before I quit smoking. I began using 2 different inhalers (1 was 4 inhalations/day, the other was 8 inhalations/day). Boy did they ever perform miracles! I'm now down to only one inhalation/day on each and am able to stand exertion without panting.

While I'm certain you're somewhat concerned that things aren't 100% but they can be, as Kevin wrote you can live very well with asthma and you probably won't need to be on the inhalers forever.

Hang in there and know that all is well and will get better.

As always, I appreciate your response....it sure makes one feel great to know others care.....I just hope all newbies will see the importance of quitting and put themselves at the top of the list until it is done....Heck, I guess I smoked so much, I did not notice the shortness of breath Rolling Eyes

BTW, I snagged this doctor while he was treating my mother and dad....he called me at all hours of the night to let me know their condition...hubby thought I had a thing going on Laughing Laughing

Kay,

I hate to hear you're having such a hard time breathing and catching your breath. Jo's words are encouraging about the inhalers. I hope it goes as well for you also. And, hey, you can't do alot right now, but once you get the right combo of meds...watch out world...Kay's back in the game! Wink Laughing

Kay, you'll kick this just like you tackle and win with everything you set out to do. You're just that kind of person....a fighter who won't back down! Very Happy

Keep us posted on the tests after Easter.

Love Ya and a Huge Hug &

ps Kevin...any possible way to get more "hugging" type smileys? Wink Very Happy

Hi Kay,

Sorry about the results of your test, but I will be there crying with you, because even without any tests I know my lung capacity is not as good as it used to be. I'm with you about those stairs! Rolling Eyes (pant, pant!)

I don't think we will RUST, and we are old enough to deserve to WHINE a little! Laughing Laughing But at least we stopped smoking. I know I would have been dead if I didn't.

I shall take an example from you, and go to my chest doc.....well, soon, anyway. Rolling Eyes I'm actually afraid to go!

Kay, do you have allergies? I do, and the tree pollen is a big problem in the Spring. Have you seen an allergist? Although, they all give the same Inhalors, or at least mine do. The allergies also affect my eyes, so I have to see the eye doc, too.

We have many miles left, Kay, so do not fret. We may go a little slower, but it's a lot better for our hearts than all that zapping about! Wink

Hi Kay! - Keep taking care of yourself - and follow the doctor's instructions! It may not be perfect - but I figure if I wake up and my feet hit the floor - I'm off to a great start!

HE HE Mary Dude.....I feel the same if I just wake up! Laughing Laughing I can tell I can breathe easier every day...the amount I can inhale is what I am talking about...even my doc noticed it yesterday. I still had to see the urologist today and she scheduled me for a cystoscopy (ouch) and a renal ultrasound for next Wed....hopefully after that, they will be done and I will be all better !!!!!...

Margaret, I do have allergies and he has me listed as asthmatic bronchitis (sp) I fear the horse's shedding their winter coats and the hay is the culprit...but of course, the 130 lb beast (great dane) who is determined to sleep with me does not help either......

I will be just fine YA"LL but felt it would help a newbie to just plunge into a quit instead of waiting until they had to do it.....

Kay
