....saw this and although I can't vouch for the veracity...
Quote: |
Dr. Mercola is fond of telling his patients that, “one French fry is worse for your health than one cigarette.” The only things you’re super-sizing are your waistline and risk of heart disease |
Dr. Joseph Mercola is the author of the Total Health Program.
I found this in an on-line article titled: Five Foods to Avoid on e-diets.com
here's a link...
http://www.ediets.com/news/article.cfm/1/code_22382/cmi_2426763/
Some of the other foods to avoid - donuts, Ramen noodles, fried chicken nuggets and french fried, mayo, and soda.....
Again...its all about choices!! Chose wisely! _________________

Well for once I don't eat any of the five worst things - but then of course we do not want to discuss ice cream -
Thanks for the info....

I don't know about that statement either, and think it's probably a little bloated just for the sake of the article.
As big as I am, though, I know most of my problems just comes from a large appetite. I am guilty every now and again, of the french fry, and in moderation, your body can handle even the not so healthy things in your diet, but all of those things, daily, are gonna hurt you. That's a fact. _________________

personally, i think dr. mercola is the head of the total idiot program; i'm sure that french fries aren't all that good for you, but worse than a cigarette?
what a moron. _________________

..and now that I think about it...I've never heard of anyone being truly addicted to french fries.... hmmm....french fry withdrawal???
I'll probably eat french fries now and then - but I have no intention of ever smoking another cigarette.... _________________

I went to see Marion Nestle speak last night - what an entertaining woman, full of knowledge, wisdom and wit! The talk was co-sponsored by the Commonwealth Club and Slow Food San Francisco (how many of you have Slow Food movements in your area?) She's written several books - the most recent is wonderfully practical.. .called "What To Eat." So many fad diets tell you what not to eat - she focuses on what to eat and how to navigate a grocery store.. practical tips like, shop the periphery, don't go into the center aisles and never buy anything with ingredients on the label that you can't pronounce.
She's written more theorhetical/heady books... such as "Food Politics"... and she's currently working on book on Pet Food (YAY!!!!) |

Thanks for the info Mary. I believe with food it's all within moderation. And I agree with Kevin too.

Ugh. I am in total agreement with all of you. I know that french fries are not the best food in the world, but dangit if they aren't a necessary evil from time to time and I can guarantee that they are a heck of a lot healthier than cigs. Sheesh. My best friend and I have a saying... "Overindulge in moderation". I like to apply that principle to french fries Same goes for donuts. And ice cream and cake and chocolate chip cookies... I'm wondering about the ramen noodles, though. Is it because of the high sodium? _________________
