My cousin, Donna has been battling breast cancer for the last four years. Last week, Donna lost her battle. She was a 41 years old, a 5th grade teacher, wife of a high school teacher (and varsity football coach) and mom to three beautiful daughters. At her "Celebraion of Life" service, her husband spoke to the crowd of almost 3000 people. I wanted to share his words....

He said (in a shortened, paraphrased version), "I don't want to tell you what a great person Donna was. You already know that. But, as an educator, I can't let this teaching moment go by without using the opportunity. Donna has taught me so much. I want to share what I have learned from her.

#1 - Think Pink! Donna's favorite color was pink, but it is also the color of breast cancer awareness. Donna wanted to help other people living with breast cancer. In the spirit of her "Pay it Forward" attitude, I'm asking everyone to "think pink".

#2 - Never give up. Always fight! No matter what comes your way, no matter what adversities are put in front of you.. do not give up.

#3 - We have a choice, every single day about how we choose to live our lives. Every morning when we wake up, we make a choice about our attitude for that day."

The words that he spoke are, obviously, good life lessons. But I also think that they are relevant to this forum. We may not be specifically "Thinking pink" here... but the veterans on this site are definately "paying it forward" to us newbies. Also, fighting, never giving up and keeping a positive attitude are essental to a successful quit. Donna touched so many lives. I thought I would let her legacy live on with all of you, too. Keep quitting and you will be successful!
