Today is my one year mark smoke free.....I can remember on day one wishing I could be at this point, knowing I was determined this time, but really dreading the ride.....and here I am.....bad days and good days and all those in between (sort of like life itself).....
After smoking for 48 years, I can't say it has been easy, but it is worth it.....especially when I think back to how sick I was a year ago, and how healthy I am today.....the Universe gave me the gift of health and it still amazes me and my doc that I don't have COPD.....
The only down side so far has been the weight gain, I sort of play with 20 lbs from one month to the next.....but couldn't pass up that Red Velevet Cake hubby bought yesterday to celebrate.....but, I think it is time to conquer that sugar addiction next....(then shopping, when I have to buy new clothes!!!!).
I am truly grateful to all of you. The inspiration, support, encouragement, knowledge and laughs you all have given this past year has been more important than I can ever express.....SO THANK YOU ALL.....MUCH LOVE AND LIGHT FROM ME TO YOU.

One year of freedom is wonderful, Patty! Not only is it a great accomplishment for you, but you've stuck around to help others in their battle with old butt head!
Remember to keep patting yourself on the back, even if others don't remember to. Most people think quitting is a one time event...but we know that its just not smoking one day at a time...over and over.
You keep up the great work, as you continue to be a wonderful example for others!
Now, where's that Velvet cake? _________________

Congratulations, patty!
I envy you, I'm on day 49 wishing I was where you are, I too am determined this time, however there are times when I feel like giving up, if it weren't for good people like you! You are continually encouraging me, and I am grateful.
Today is your day, enjoy it!!
I like cake too!
God Bless;
See you soon,
Sunny |

When I read that you had smoked for 48 years I immediately identified with you. I smoked 44 years. We pretty much smoked our whole lives.
I sure had trouble breaking that connection - have had many attempts at quitting the last 4 years.
This one is different somehow. The connection is broken. I'm able to look at smoking in a logical way and see it for what it is. I could never do that before - the thoughts in my brain would just take over and away went my quit.
Unlike you I do have COPD and was recently in the hospital 10 days. I'm still on oxygen. My lungs are so destroyed.
My husband tells me it's OK with him as long as I'm alive.
So, you and I are finally living our lives as we were intended to. Doesn't it feel great?
Congratulations to you on over ONE YEAR without
